The music on this almost entirely previously unreleased two-CD set features the
Eureka Brass Band at three different rehearsals in 1956. While disc one mostly has complete performances by the ensemble (which includes such notable New Orleans players as trumpeters
Percy Humphrey and
Kid Sheik Cola and tenorman
Emanuel Paul), the second disc is just for fanatics and completists. Most of the performances from the latter half finds the band rehearsing a pair of dirges, with plenty of false starts and abrupt endings. Perhaps if this band included more classic players, then these scraps would be greater interest, but, as it is, only the most hearty New Orleans jazz fans are advised to get this twofer.
