Sounding exactly like they did in 1983,
the Fartz, an old-school hardcore band from Seattle, hammer out a bunch of songs here that seem like they could only come from that era. But, in fact, these are new songs with titles like "Rich White American" and "Apathy is the Enemy." Strange that they didn't include any songs attacking
Reagan. This is the most bareboned, simplistic music, the sort of thing four kids in a garage with no musical ability could produce over a weekend. During the early '80s there were some bands who played this sort of raw anti-music which were actually successful, spouting a message rather than caring about their music. The Fartz were not one of those bands. To be playing this sort of trash punk in 2002 is retro to say the least, but also pointless. Hardcore has come a long way since then, and few bands can get away with concentrating only on their message and having their music sound like utter junk. Also,
the Fartz don't even bother to include a lyric sheet here, and you can't understand any of the words. The occasional guitar solos are awful. If they can sell even 500 copies of this one,
the Fartz are geniuses. ~ Adam Bregman
