Released for the first time on CD in 1998, flügelhornist
Clark Terry is matched in a fairly intimate setting with pianist
Horace Parlan and bassist
Red Mitchell.
Parlan seems particularly inspired during the outing,
Terry is in typically joyous form, and the importance of
Mitchell's supportive basslines cannot be overestimated. Other than a throwaway bit of vocalized hilarity on "The Perils of Pauline,"
Terry concentrates throughout on his horn playing and he is particularly strong on "Puttie's Patter," "Brahms' Lullaby," the emotional ballad "What Will I Tell My Heart?" and "Simple Waltz." A happy set of swinging music. ~ Scott Yanow
