Don't think this has anything to do with the talents of
Jazzanova. Jazzelicious (the band, the concept, the whatever) has everything to do with Roy Shakked, Groove Gravy Records' label head and composer for his own Score Music Productions. The sole producer on the album, Shakked constructs breezy light funk with the musical output of Brazil as an obvious influence. It worked better on his Brazil Remixed collection, but here it gets humdrum after two or three tracks. Uninspired melodies and hackneyed ideas fill the album as it trips over itself trying to prove how tropical and funky it is. In an especially trite moment, a recording of a can opening and pouring a tall cold one opens one of the tracks. It's at least a prominent moment on an otherwise ignorable album. ~ David Jeffries
