Johnny Kemp got a lot of mileage out of a song written for him by
Kashif, "Just Another Lover." The single was a huge hit in the mid-'80s and gave
Kemp's debut album for Columbia a great start.
Kemp, a session vocalist and composer who had worked with
Millie Jackson,
Glenn Jones, and
Change while penning songs for
the B.B. & Q. Band, put plenty of effort and energy into these tracks, but too often expended his resources on routine material. But it was well-produced, and he did well enough with the single to get a second album for the label. [An Expanded Edition was released in 2013.] ~ Ron Wynn
