The Springfields' debut British LP captured the singers as all-around-entertainers with a somewhat, like the title says, folksy bent. They put across folk material like
Lee Hays' "Lonesome Traveler" and pseudo-world music like "Wimoweh Mambo" (!) with energetic, and not always wholly convincing, pop arrangements. Eight of the twelve songs would appear on the Springfields' 1962 American LP
Silver Threads & Golden Needles, which omitted several of the more internationally minded songs ("Wimoweh Mambo," a ridiculously brassy arrangement of "Tzena, Tzena, Tzena," and "Eso Es El Amor"). In any case, all of the tracks from
Kinda Folksy appear, in sequence, on the double-CD anthology
Over the Hills and Far Away.
