Not to be confused with the Grateful Dead Records release of the same name, this is an archival album collecting 12 previously unreleased performances by various lineups of
Kingfish dating back to 1973. As such, it features recordings from before, during, and after
Grateful Dead guitarist
Bob Weir's tenure in the band, and
Weir can be heard singing and playing rock 'n' roll standards like "Road Runner" and "Promised Land."
John Lee Hooker also sings one cut with the band, augmented by
Michael Bloomfield. The remaining material is not as impressive. ~ William Ruhlmann
