Kitty Glitter par Catfight! - DeepRiffs

This Atlanta trio begins its first full-length release, Kitty Glitter, with "Conquest," a track that sets the attitude for the rest of the album. The song speaks of the unwanted efforts of an overeager fellow and is delivered in quite a determined and snarling style. The music on the disc is a mix of punk, garage rock, and a sound reminiscent of '60s girl group efforts. For example, "Syphilis" stands out as a hilarious deadpan ballad of regret about a date that results in a girl "taking penicillin for years." The singing mainly alternates between the sharper-edged Jennifer Kraft and the baby doll vocals of Katy Graves. "My Mustang" and "Do the Pussycat" also follow up in this style, but a confident punk rock is served up for the rest of the album. A few of the tracks fall flat, but the highlights include the aforementioned "Syphilis," "Mafia Boyfriend," and "Back Seat Seating." There's even a cover of Van Halen's "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love" hidden before the last track. A good first outing.
