Talk about autobiographical.
Tech N9ne's
Klusterfuk EP kicks off with his birth date -- down to the minute -- along with the city, state, and pretty much everything but the GPS coordinates, right before the grinding tune launches into a compelling growing-up story with chunky guitar. With a solid hook on top of it, this title track is massive and places on the top tier of the rapper's output, which, for fans, is enough of an excuse for this aptly titled EP. Taking a swift turn, the so 2012 sound of dubstep is next, with the first of two
Krizz Kaliko features right after. Then there are two uplifting numbers in the middle, the better of the two being "Awkward," where producer Gianni Cash envisions the sound of
the Roots being produced by
Madlib, while the once tortured
Tech strolls through his "it's OK to feel strange" story. Maybe it's not as KF'd as it seems, but even with the thematic unity ("hey weird kid, it gets better"), so many musical genres shoved in makes it "scattershot," while being so small makes it "stopgap." ~ David Jeffries
