After the release of German indie rock newcomer
Bakkushan's self-titled debut album in early 2010, the band appeared on MTV Home and TV soap Gute Zeiten, Schlechte Zeiten; they played shows with
Jennifer Rostock and
Jupiter Jones; they took part in the Bundesvision Song Contest 2010, where they made ninth place; and they were nominated for an Echo Award for best video clip in 2011. Their second album, 2012's
Kopf im Sturm, is a tribute to their growing popularity, entering the German album charts at number 14 and featuring the lead single "Nur die Nacht," which marks the band's first entry on the singles charts (albeit only at number 95). While
Bakkushan mostly keep the energetic rock intensity of their first album, they add a few more serious moments such as the epic stadium number "Der Letzte Mensch der Welt," complete with strings and wistful lyrics.
Kopf im Sturm is also available as a limited deluxe edition with a bonus DVD. ~ Christian Genzel
