Bobby Rodriguez plays particularly strong during "Birdland" and "I Remember Clifford" on this project from his Latin Jazz Productions label. However,
Rodriguez's three vocals, which do their best to be inspirational to kids (particularly "East L.A. Blues" and "East L.A. Rasta") are a bit tiring to hear a second or third time and weigh down the set a little. Fortunately the six instrumentals are stronger and the local musicians are excellent, making this a worthwhile if not essential release of Afro-Cuban jazz. ~ Scott Yanow
