Having released the sugary "Something Real" and been featured on an album's worth of tracks by
21 Savage ("Secret"),
Khalid ("Eleven"),
Trey Songz ("Back Home"), and a host of others,
Summer Walker continues her post-
Over It work with the five-track
Life on Earth. Unlike her previous EP, the low-key
Clear, this feels more pieced together and is more collaborative.
Walker duets with
NO1-NOAH on "SWV" and "White Tee," a pair of slow jams filled with mellow dirty talk, while she's joined again by
PartyNextDoor on the comparatively tense and reflective "My Affection." The acoustic guitar is back out for the opening and closing songs, solo trap-soul ballads that could be out of sequence, expressing regret and derision in "Let It Go" and finishing with "Deeper," where
Walker gives in to temptation.
Life on Earth increases the anticipation for the artist's second album without diluting what has preceded it. ~ Andy Kellman
