Sweet & Honey were a heavy psych act that featured a pre-Ghost
Masaki Batoh. Live at Your Cosmic Mind was their only album, originally released on vinyl by Now Sound and out of print for years until rescued from obscurity by Drag City, Ghost's U.S. record label. The lineup is bass, drums, and two electric guitars with plenty of Space-Echo. The vocals that surface occasionally are pretty unintelligible, and the sound is a bit sludgy, but in these (probably) improvised tunes, you can hear some, but clearly not all, of the influences that went into the Ghost sound. There is little in the way of subtlety on these plodding jams, but the almost hypnotic grooves and exploratory solos would become a mainstay of the Ghost repertoire. Live at Your Cosmic Mind is a good but not great album. However, as a document of the early career of
Masaki Batoh and a glimpse at what led up to Ghost, it's invaluable. ~ Sean Westergaard
