Originally known for dark progressive house releases, Denmark-based producer
Anders Trentemøller has since bristled at the idea of being pigeonholed in just one genre, taking a "music is music" stance and damning those who come to his releases with certain expectations. Fair enough: few have earned this stance as well as the skilled and diverse producer, but it's worth noting that
Lost Reworks takes his 2013 album
Lost to an even less dancey place. The pithy way to put it is that
Lost Reworks remixes
Lost into a mid-era
New Order album -- what with all the six-string,
Peter Hook-like basslines, and guitars over drum machines stuff -- save the opening remix of "River of Life," which is dark and lean enough to be mistaken for
Gary Numan. There are seven tracks in total, with two songs repeating, and while those who want the good old days of
Deep Dish- and
Underworld-sounding club cuts would do well to avoid the EP, fans who fell hard for
Lost will welcome these worthy, rocky expansions. ~ David Jeffries
