Following much in the same vein as longtime associates
the Cowboy Junkies, this Canadian trio offers up a batch of beer-soaked country honky tonk, rockabilly, and some hillbilly pop. While the songs are rather simplistic in their formula and delivery, the band manages to come up with a few highlights, particularly "Out and Rambling," "In My Neighborhood," and "Postcards Home," with Louis Hale adding harmony vocals. The Corndogs formed in 1984 before alternative country was trendy, and this album is hard to find but worth the search. The only problem seems to be a few lyrical weak spots, such as "Hamburger Songs," which is more polka-oriented than country-tinged. ~ Jason MacNeil
