Shamanic. Repetitive. Hypnotic. Impressive. Each new mass celebrated by Godspeed You! Black Emperor has a tendency to trigger the same adjectives. And while the post-rock collective from Montreal have rarely changed their style, each of their new albums must be apprehended as an entity in its own right. And Luciferian Towers (what a title!) confirms this trend. With this sixth album, the Godspeed gurus seem to focus more on the melodic fabric of the record, than on its compositions. The impressive anthems contained in the album reek of sulphur, even of Armageddon. It’s a known fact: the Devil entertains more than God, and every instant of Luciferian Towers will make you raise your eyebrows and open your mouths, in awe.
