Madison Blues is, for a change, a different kind of
Fleetwood Mac compilation. Most are rehashes of the fabled group's years with the elusive guitar genius
Peter Green, and his equally iconoclastic partner on the electric six-string,
Jeremy Spencer.
Green is only present on a couple of tracks here, the rest of this Recall two-disc comp is made up of the band fronted by
Christine Perfect (née
McVie) (most of the time) with
Spencer and
Danny Kirwan also taking turns in the vocal spotlight. It's all blues and rock & roll stomp; none of the pop material with
Bob Welch is here, but it hardly matters, this is a different side of the band than is normally presented and it gives the persona of
Perfect some added dimension and depth in fronting a band associated with such male-dominated music. [The third disc is a bonus live DVD representing these very same years.]
