The Drifters were one of the all-time great singing groups of any era, and anyone who is a fan of R&B or doo wop should be absolutely sure to have some kind of
Drifters collection in his collection.
Magic Moments should not, must not, be that collection. It consists of very lame re-recorded versions of 11 songs like "On Broadway" and "Under the Boardwalk" that the Drifters made classics. The vocals are passable, though not done by the original singers that first recorded them. The musical backing is atrocious. Wheezy synthesizers, cheezy drum machines, and an incredible lack of soul make this music some of the worst you are liable to ever hear. If you make the mistake of buying this deceivingly packaged (is that even the Drifters on the cover?) and titled disc, consider this fair warning. Steer clear of
Magic Moments at all costs.
