By blending world music with a distinctly modern sensibility, flutist/percussionist Suzanne Teng has become a favorite among yoga instructors, spiritual seekers, and film score composers. Teng's second album, MILES BEYOND, makes stops at every corner of the globe, focusing on the sound of her flute throughout. "Medicine Wheel" touches on the plaintive notes of Native American flute music and incorporates polished guitar lines and a crisp tapestry of percussion. On "Sierra," Teng sets a distinctly Latin mood with suave alto flutes and constant crackling of maracas. "Babylonian" catches her in a crowded market somewhere in the Middle East, and "Sitara" is in homage to the Far East, where her flute performs a duet with a sitar. Using more than 10 different flutes, Teng proves her true mastery over the instrument, as well as her excellent ear for cultural traditions and smooth production.
