This CD reissue brings back an Everest session that was one of
Charlie Barnet's odder recordings. For this big-band set, the distinctive swing tenor sticks exclusively to alto and soprano, where his personality is much less unique. Actually, except for some moments from trumpeter
Charlie Shavers, little memorable happens during these dozen performances, which are mostly updates of swing hits.
Bill Holman contributed the arrangements, but his charts are much less interesting than usual, and although
Phil Woods is in the sax section, the altoist does not have a single solo. Also, the sound quality on a few of the pieces (particularly "Evergreens") is a bit distorted.
