This last released live Motortown Revue recording should have been inspiration for continuation, but sadly no more followed this one; these performances were recorded at the Fox Theater in Detroit at an annual Christmas show. Little-known Blinky Williams is featured on two numbers, her should-have-been-a-hit single release "I Wouldn't Change the Man He Is," written by
Ashford & Simpson, and a rousing rendition of
Otis Redding's "I Can't Turn You Loose." Bobby Taylor does three numbers,
Johnnie Taylor's "Who's Making Love" and two numbers he recorded with the Vancouvers, "Does Your Mama Know About Me" and the charming, lilting "Malinda." The most powerful performance is delivered by
the Temptations, who are introduced as special guests; they turned the Fox Theater out with a rousing version of "Cloud Nine."
Gladys Knight & the Pips and
Stevie Wonder serenaded the crowd with three songs each, surprisingly coming off rather lackluster. ~ Andrew Hamilton
