Issued in 2012, Motown Unreleased 1962: Girls digs deeper into the archives of Hitsville USA, compiling the unreleased material from girl groups in the developmental year just before the label struck gold with breakout hits by Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, and the Supremes. Berry Gordy has gone so far as to say that the universally recognized Motown sound was established in 1963 by Martha & the Vandellas' "Come and Get These Memories," and this 19-song collection shines the light on six earlier songs by the Vandellas and fills the rest with unreleased tracks by the hitless, underappreciated Hattie Littles, which are good as well.
