As could be guessed from the title, Muy Personal is the most reflective collection of songs in
Victor Manuelle's career, with the brassy leads of his usual salsa output replaced by the tropes of Latin pop (including piano, keyboards, and textured acoustic guitar). But the most respected sonero in his generation doesn't just dip a toe into the water; he writes much of his own material -- some with prominent help from
Sin Bandera's
Noel Schajris, who also duets on a song -- and makes Muy Personal an album not for lovers, but for those who have loved and lost. Aside from
Schajris,
Manuelle also duets with
Yuridia on "Nuestro Amor Se Ha Vuelto Ayer." As expected, Muy Personal was
Manuelle's first album to reach the Latin Pop Albums chart, but not only that, it also hit number one. ~ John Bush
