With
No Rules, Ritkam and Bansi's
GMS (Growling Mad Scientists) made an album that was tough like Tidy Trax and refreshingly stupid and intense about its own dancefloor-aimed psych-trance. Splodges of rubber rhythms sounded at home next to an engaging Hi-NRG mudslide of wrecked FX and recognizable film samples ("Gladiator," "I'm on Mars," "Spliffpolitics," "Juice by GMS"), which gave a sense of balance to everything. While
No Rules rarely offered anything unique, it would have been far more disappointing if it didn't try to recapture the zeal of
Judge Jules and
Deko-Ze (especially in their live DJ sets) more than the typical
Logic Bomb strain of sludgy psychedelic roaming. ~ Dean Carlson
