The new Yuksek record is here. A member of a movement that was probably too quickly baptised the French Touch 2.0, the French DJ ended up exhausting his electro-pop interests. Having “reached the end of a cycle” as he put it, he turned his attention towards Brazil for this fourth album with a Portuguese title: Nosso Ritmo (“our rhythm”). The vibe is set from the start with Do Beijo featuring Processman and Henriq Ch, an irresistible groove track somewhere between disco and samba. The list of guests on this album is somewhat extended, notably including Isaac Delusion on Into the Light which was released in late January and starts with the same beat (a touch slower) as Joe Smooth’s house classic Promised Land. Ed Banger-signed duo Breakbot & Irfane infuse their soulful French Touch on The Only Reason, whereas Polo & Pan bring their talent to Cadenza, a beautiful tribal deep house track infused with flanger with a certain dreamy side to it. Zombie Zombie offer a similarly mystical percussive trip on Hashram Peplum, but the album’s hit Rollercoaster comes from Yuksek by himself. Winter isn’t even over yet and we’re already being transported to summer. © Smaël Bouaici/Qobuz
