Deishovida's second release is a live recording but includes no selections from their 1995 debut, Fast Folk. Like their inaugural album,
Not 4 U contains elements of jazz, experimental, and Eastern European music. Not surprisingly, "Natasha From Russia" utilizes Russian stylings while the influences on "Klezmer Set" are self-explanatory; "Donna Lombarda" incorporates some gypsy fiddling, but for the most part, these are unpredictable, minor key jazzy pieces that may venture into folk music or may not. Either way, it makes for interesting and challenging listening. The instrumental configuration is as uncommon as it gets with Kurt Bauer on violin, Matthias Loibner on hurdy-gurdy and acoustic guitar, Lothar Lässer on accordion, and Walter Pogantsch on electric bass and cello. Some casual group vocals add a little humor as well. ~ Dave Sleger
