Gleich fünf Jahre dauerte es, bis Deicide einen Nachfolger zu ihrem 2013 veröffentlichten Album In the Minds of Evil vorlegen sollten, und in der Zwischenzeit gab es einen neuerlichen Besetzungswechsel bei den Death-Metal-Veteranen aus Florida: Gitarrist Jack Owen wechselte zu Six Feet Under, weshalb seit 2016 Monstrosity-Gitarrist Mark English zusammen mit Kevin Quirion die Saiten bei Deicide traktiert. Auf knappen 38 Minuten Spielzeit setzt die Gruppe auf den 12 Tracks ihres 12. Albums Overtures of Blasphemy auf ihre knackige Mischung aus Thrash und Melodien, intensivem Geschwindigkeitsrausch und brutalem Growling - nachzuhören auf dezibelstarken Singles wie "Excommunicated", "Seal the Tomb Below" und "Defying the Sacred".
