The four-man Clipse spin-off crew--made up of the Clipse brothers Pusha T and Malice, and Philly cats Ab Liva and Sandman-- built a name on the strength of the street mixtapes WE GOT IT 4 CHEAP VOLUMES I, II, and III. On their self-titled debut studio LP, the Re-Up Gang stay focused, spinning more hardcore street-life narratives centered on coke-flipping, flouting local law enforcement, and reaping the materialistic rewards of their neverending hustle. The rhymes are quick, slick, and accessible--as Pusha T proclaims on the Scott Storch-produced lead single, “Fast Life”: “It’s the almighty duo, you know/Critically acclaimed, moving weight like a sumo.” The beats are consistently cinematic, relying on minimalist piano loops, dramatic string arrangements, and even marching drum tracks.
