Listening just to the first two tracks on this CD would give a person a very skewed view of what type of music
Magnitude 9 performs. Those two songs feel very much like fairly generic '80s metal. Once those cuts go by, though, you are suddenly presented with a very different musical scope. The rest of the album is much more in the vein of recent prog metal like
Fates Warning, but with a good, solid dose of
Iron Maiden thrown in for good measure. In fact, the group does their own version of
Maiden's "Flight of Icarus," and it is quite good. This disc is a bit on the unoriginal side, but for fans of the genre, it is very well-performed and listenable prog metal that should please.
