Another in Satamile's roster of neo-electro fetishists, Dublin, Ireland's
Decal play their electro with a Detroit techno influence, but only in the high-end, not the bass. Bleepy with plenty of chirps,
Release Through Velocity is a satisfying headphone record more than a stomping floor-filler. The album keeps a traditionalist attitude toward instrumentation, but
Decal's smart song structure goes deeper than the usual robotic precision. The abstract track "64 Guns" pits rival basslines against one another, giving the album its most frantic and unsettling moment. "A Happy Home" is the exact opposite, offering a surprisingly naïve and fuzzy version of
Decal much in the way the rather sweet "This Must Be the Place" shed new light on
Talking Heads. Otherwise the album keeps a low profile, sticking with a more cold, detached, silicon, and spacey feel.
