West Indian Girl, a duo from Los Angeles, is steeped in the swirling, jangly acid rock of the psychedelic '60s. True to its name, 2006's REMIX EP features tracks from the group's 2004 self-titled debut that have been treated, processed, and totally reconfigured by a host of remix artists. While the band's studio release occasionally suffered under its debt to the Summer of Love, REMIX EP lifts that burden by keeping things decidedly contemporary. Sleek hip-hop beats, gauzy electronica, and washes of effects mix with West Indian Girl's twanging sitars and high-flown harmonies, making for a pleasant, trippy meeting of past and future.
