Not a cover of the
Elvis Presley hit,
Mojave 3's
Return to Sender instead possesses a kind of casual, offhand charm recalling some of the more lighthearted moments from
Bob Dylan's
Basement Tapes sessions, right down to the woozy, good-timey chorus that guides the song out. Which begs the question of why this likable but slight number was selected as a single over more substantial Excuses for Travellers fare like the haunting "My Life in Art" -- it exemplifies few of the qualities that make the record so genuinely moving. This EP is still worth purchasing for its B-sides, the first a live cover of
Out of Tune's "Yer Feet" recorded in Portugal, and the second a telling cover of
Dylan's
Nashville Skyline opus "Girl from the North Country." ~ Jason Ankeny
