Kramer's work, both solo and with
Bongwater, remains unsurpassed regardless of how many collaborations he clocks up in his discography. He worked with
Daevid Allen, John S. Hall,
Hugh Hopper, and many others during the '90s, and has maintained a career as an in-demand producer as ubiquitous in the New York indie scene as
John Zorn or
Thurston Moore. With Daved Hild's songs as the backbone,
Kramer laces this recording with his signature production and arrangement skills, which render the recording an unmistakable Shimmy Disc production.
Rubber Hair is completely homogenous with
Kramer's sound, yet lacks the delicate pop gems of his
Secret of Comedy or the wanton guitarscapes of his Guilt Trip solo albums. The collaboration album by
Carney/Hild/Kramer is a better collection overall. ~ Skip Jansen
