Paul Nash is a lyrical seven-string guitarist and an occasional flutist, but is most notable for his talents as a composer and arranger. This 1997 CD reissue finds
Nash writing for and playing with a medium-size ensemble that includes such notables as trumpeter
Tom Harrell, pianist
Michael Cochrane and bassist
Anthony Cox. His nine originals, while melodic, do not contain any overly memorable themes. However, the music manages to be both complex and accessible at the same time; there are quite a few fine solos, most notably from trumpeter Harrell, and
Michele Hendricks' voice is an asset on "Passing Glance."
Paul Nash clearly deserves an opportunity to put together more sessions.
