Mexican band
Agora is proof positive that there is more to Latin music than
Shakira,
Ricky Martin, and
Los Tigres Del Norte. The band puts forth a blend of progressive rock and metal that will certainly call to mind artist such as
Dream Theater and
Fates Warning far more readily than their aforementioned countrymen. One can also hear elements that call to mind people like
Rick Wakeman and
Emerson, Lake & Palmer within this disc. One word of warning for those who don't speak Spanish, though -- this CD is all in that language, so don't expect to understand the lyrics if you are not versed in the language. Due at least in part to that language barrier, the album can also come across as a bit repetitive and lacking in variety. Still for fans of the prog/prog metal genre, this disc is really an intriguing find. ~ Gary Hill
