Gary Chapman is highly underrated as a songwriter/performer. For the most part, the songs on
Shelter won't immediately jump out at the listener, but the tracks do grow on you after a few repeated listens. The album opens with an a cappella version of "Great Is Thy Faithfulness" and closes with the rocking "Gospel Ship." In between are ten tracks that showcase
Chapman's fine songwriting and performing abilities. Produced by
Michael Omartian, Shelter is not
Gary Chapman's best release, but it is still a worthy find. ~ Tim Griggs
