Disney's Silly Classical Songs collects parody singalongs of classical favorites along with their original versions. Some of the silly versions, such as "Beethoven's Fifth Helping" (sung to
Beethoven's "Symphony No. 5") and "A Cricket's Life" (a parody of
Gounod's "Funeral March of a Marionette") are inspired, but as often as not, they feel too contrived. However, the singalongs, coupled with the proper versions of the pieces, do provide children with a fair introduction to some of classical music's most famous pieces and composers, including Offenbach, Strauss,
Mozart,
Bizet,
Grieg, and
Tchaikovsky. ~ Heather Phares
