When faced with such a project, excitement is at its peak. Two rap legends from Houston have decided to release a joint EP that doesn’t come along everyday. On Slab Talk, Lil Keke and Paul Wall show off a sound that is well-anchored in the hometown, from the huge Left Right and its organs, to the more electronic Don’t Think About It, key moments in the first half of the EP. Of course, this is not the first time these two have joined forces. Since 2013, they have racked up a great deal of features and production exchanges. But Slab Talk strongly cements their partnership. From head-turning and fiery Drifting to more traditional beatmaking on Slab Season (in which we find drum sample from the Honey Drapers Impeach the President), these ten track even lean towards tasty R&B influences when Kendall Thomas is invited to feature. A project not to be missed. © Brice Miclet/Qobuz
