Tall Dwarfs fourth release is their Dr. Frankenstein, down-in-the-lab-growing-something-green-in-a-test tube EP, but even with wigged-out monster mashes like "The Brain That Wouldn't Die" and "Crush," this five-songer teems with hooks. There's a multitude of organ and galloping tape loop on "I've Left Memories Behind" and plenty of propulsive guitar on the pair of cuts dedicated to "Phil's Disease." In short, it's another chillingly perfect gem. Like all of their first four classic EPs, Slugbucket is compiled on
Hello Cruel World, but be sure to see the original's hilarious back-cover snap of the band's mischievous masterminds,
Chris Knox and
Alec Bathgate. ~ Patrick Foster
