In the late '80s and early '90s, MCA wasn't as successful with rock as it had been in R&B, and the company set out to change that by signing an abundance of metal and hard rock bands. One of the signings was
Spread Eagle, whose sound was influenced by
Aerosmith,
Mötley Crüe, and
Guns N' Roses. This isn't a remarkable album, and songs like "Now Could Be Never," "Full Time Loser," and "Blackout" were never in danger of winning any awards for innovation. But say what you will -- Eagle was good for some rowdy, trashy, escapist fun. And to Eagle's credit, the band wasn't as slick as some of the other headbangers MCA was pushing when this CD came out in 1990. ~ Alex Henderson
