A prelude to
Dead Fader's 2015
Glass Underworld LP,
Sun Copter is a brief EP of dark, ominous soundscapes. Previously a dubstep-leaning duo,
Dead Fader was by this point a solo venture of John Cohen, and while the growling, rusty bass of the project's earlier material remains, he goes for more of a suspenseful, slowly unfolding horror soundtrack vibe here. The self-explanatory "Nightmare Sequence" takes eight minutes to build up its throbbing, unhurried rhythm, and the EP's title track has a woozy, swirling feel befitting of its title. "Black Maze" is the EP's most straightforward techno track, but it still feels kind of stilted, with its creeping piano and moaning vocals. ~ Paul Simpson
