Since 1995,
L'Ange Vert ("the Green Angel") have been leaders in the French folk-rock scene.
Tempete & Chatiments ("Storm & Punishments") is their third release and further establishes
Ange Vert's sui generis. Their mix contains the influences of Brittany with roots rock and fleeting Cajun references to produce quite a unique sound. Lead instrumentalist Bruno Rouille, whose harmonica playing dominates this recording, is largely responsible for
L'Ange Vert's distinct sound. His style more closely resembles the chromatic, jazzy intonations of Toots Thielemans than the bluesy approach to the harmonica most often associated with rock & roll, although he does incorporate a blues style on the title track. He also doubles on the oboe-like bombarde and occasionally harmonizes with the two. Electric guitarist Stephane Archan and the rhythm section of Eric Daniel (bass) and Christophe Archan (drums) provide the rock muscle, and lead vocalist Eric Vasse's bravado reinforces the sometimes larger than life persona of this band. ~ Dave Sleger
