Even before the start of his professional singing career in 1967, when he recorded his first hit "Rumbon Melon," Ismael Miranda was single-mindedly pursuing music, having formed a variety of bands before the age of eleven. He became the youngest member of the Fania All Stars, a gig that jump-started his solo career when he released his first solo album, ASI SE COMPONE UN SON, in 1973.

Over three decades later, Miranda is seemingly unstoppable, back from a Sinatra-style on-again/off-again retirement, and releasing superlative material such as this. As a preeminent performer of salsa vieja ("old salsa"), Miranda is not content to rest on his laurels. Instead, he uses his maturity to put his authoritative stamp on this infectious collection, from the danceable "Un Mundo Raro" to the smoothly seductive, string-accompanied "El Peor De Los Caminos," where his skills as a romantic crooner are put to effective use. This album demonstrates this veteran salsero's continued vitality and renewed enthusiasm for the music that has been so much a part of his life.
