Romantic comedy That Awkward Moment is the directorial debut by screenwriter Tom Gormican, starring Zac Ephron, Miles Teller, and Michael B. Jordan. Its soundtrack contains contributions from synth pop acts including Crozet, Night Drive, and
Strange Talk, as well as indie pop/rockers Black Apples and
Strange Talk. They all fit the target audience for the film. The real surprise, however, is the score, which was composed by guitarist and producer
David Torn, who has been writing for film and television since 2003. While his incidental music doesn't compare with his more formal recordings, his combined use of electronic and organic instruments even when they evoke the sounds of 80s electronic pop, offsets the other sounds presented here; his eight set pieces hold ambient and melodic beauty, as well as some tension and drama. ~ Thom Jurek
