A various artists compilation that's slanted toward Southern soul and blues with
the Impressions' doo-wop flavored "Gypsy Woman" and
the Marvelows' harmony gem "I Do" added for variety.
B.B. King's "The Thrill Is Gone" and O. V. Wright's "Eight Men, Four Women" are blues and deep soul classics.
Ike and Tina Turner are represented on two selections: "The Hunter" and their erotic rendition of "I've Been Loving You Too Long." Songs the magnitude of
Eddie Holman's "Hey There Lonely Girl," and
Joe Hinton's "Funny" defy labeling.
Maxine Brown, Bobby Blue Bland, and
the Tams tracks are pieces de resistance. The Marvelows and
the Impressions provide more ear treats with "In the Morning" and "We're a Winner," respectively. A good party CD. ~ Andrew Hamilton
