Ted Gioia has become better known as a jazz journalist and author than as a musician. On this set, originally on his Quartet label and later reissued by Bainbridge,
Gioia shows that he is an able pianist. His style is not overly distinctive, and on a couple of his original ballads he almost leans toward new age, but
Gioia also swings with his quartet on such tunes as "Stella By Starlight" and "All The Things You Are."
Ted Gioia mostly leans toward more relaxed tempos, but ironically sounds at his most appealing when his trio is cooking.
