Former members of Frankie Machine and
Powerman 5000 turn back the clock on their riff-heavy debut, which slips and slides through a variety of sludgy, grunge-influenced songs. The sum of their parts really doesn't amount to much -- they're more listenable than Frankie Machine, but not as stimulating as
Powerman. Still, this sounds awfully dated and rote this late in the game (and their occasional nods toward '70s classic crunch rock don't help matters). At their best -- "Maybe," "Drive (Come With Me)," and "Why" --
the Flying Tigers can be tuneful, but more often than not, they're just unexciting. ~ Michael Gallucci
