This four-disc collection of British folk is essentially a reshuffling of the four-disc Folk Box released by Castle Pulse in 1998. Most of the tracks are live performances, and several of them, including
Ian Campbell's elegantly casual take on "Dirty Old Town,"
Pentangle's live, jazzy, and wonderfully extended version of "Bruton Town," Carolanne Pegg's raggedly perfect "Mouse & Crow," and the straight rocking horn blues of
Gerry Rafferty's "New Street Blues," are well worth hearing. A lot of these tracks, though, don't cry out for repeated plays. ~ Steve Leggett
