Originally planned as a teaser single from an upcoming release on
Mike Patton's Ipecac Records, Illness sprawls out into a full-force EP that finds the return of
the Kid in prime form. Not as reliable on cut-up madness like the past few releases, the title track is straight-up beats and breaks that could very well be an electronic music anthem given the proper amount of exposure. "Ecstasy Motherfucker" takes the happy hardcore sound of Midwestern U.S. raves and updates it a few years later, and really presents nothing new other than an intense, high-energy workout and a frantic pace. The last two tracks are
the Kid in some of his finest introspective moments, exhibiting a solemnity last revisited on his
Why I Love Life EP. Despite the fact that this is supposed to be only a teaser of what is forthcoming, it easily stands alone as a solid release.
