Thomas Koch (aka DJ T.), veteran club-jock and co-label boss of the influential Berlin-based dance imprint Get Physical, has been reinvigorating the post-millennial techno scene with classic dance sounds recast through the glint and sparkle of modern production techniques. While his debut long-player, BOOGIE PLAYGROUND (2005), drew upon diverse inspirations, from classic disco and funk to rare italo and electro, T’s 2009 follow-up, INNER JUKEBOX, is a far more focused affair that pays homage to the early-‘90s global house music explosion. With a no-nonsense, groove-focused approach that would likely pay the most dividends on dance floors, INNER JUKEBOX may be far from home listening electronica but neither is it simple-minded club fodder. Bold, deep, expressive, and often sexy, commercial club music is rarely as accomplished or artful as this.
